In a few days I leave Spain and journey back home to Australia. I leave my caretaker of the last 3 weeks, a lovely 17-year-old feline who has commanded my attention and love so effortlessly that it made me under this last full moon and Lions Gate think of how long it has been since my own animal caretakers have been from my life. I am 63 years of age and finishing 4 months travelling around the UK and Europe and realised that all my life I have had my animals beside me. However, it has been six and a half years since my last pets (animal family members) have left this physical dimension.
I have travelled a lot in those years and through the pet caring back home and abroad, each of my charges have taught me so much. Now when it is of the feline kind, they are generally quickly in charge of you. But once they get to know you, they will always have something to share with you. I have cared for all sorts of family members for some of the most beautiful people who open their homes to me and trust that their precious babies are loved as they love them. So, learning to accept the gifts and gratitude that has come to me in enjoying the experience with these great beings has been a big part of my current transformation.
You see I still, even after all that I have seen and witnessed in this world, believe that most people are good and kind and will be caring especially for animals. My grandfather always said not to trust someone who is not kind to animals. He is right you know but I also believe that you need to trust yourself first even if that is just to trust that you will do the right thing and be that kind person yourself. Trust also gets you to know you will be able to get through whatever it is you are going through right now,
I have witnessed more than most and less than many but as we turn our attention inwards during this transition time, know that when you pull back all the layers of what someone has told you, or society has told you and especially what you have then told ourselves. you are that kind and compassionate and loving being. We just have to dig deep on that sometimes.
How you are when no one is looking can reveal who you really are and animals can sense that quicker than many humans? I have two wonderful children who have been out in the wider world overseas for a decade (a gap year I said) and if there is a dog, no matter however large it will end up in my son’s lap or on his shoulder and any cat will seek out my daughter even if it is whilst sitting at a table in a restaurant have a beer or just wandering the streets in any foreign country.
This is just a story of a part of a journey that has revealed a deeper part of me I wish to share. If the world looks like it is not a place to trust that life is good (because life is good) then perhaps trusting yourself to find a way to change your perspective will help you change your reality. If you cannot see things can change it will not but if you can imagine something just a little higher than the ground you are on, can view it from a helicopter or the next balcony you can begin the change.
Then trust yourself to gain the wisdom you need to take that next step deeper into the transformation.
